Rules restrict, which works against the advancement of the hobby. An
unrestricted category allows those with imagination, technical ability
and the will to explore to do exactly that. Those who do not have these
skills or abilities can stay in the current categories with their
associated rules.
From these sort of people we can all benefit from the advances they
bring to the hobby. Without them we would still be using AM rather than
SSB. We would be using pump handles and no iambic or PC keying. We would
be using paper logging and paper adjudication rather than PC logging and
software adjudication. And so on.
