...and you put out a bloomin good signal from Jersey, don't know what
propagation mode it was was definately wasn't the usual 6m watery tropo that
you usually get with sigs over 50 miles away, you were a solid signal here,
more like an Es signal, but you were too close for that and no noticable
short-skip (scatter?).
We'd done the UK 6m Group contest from our /P site a couple of weeks ago so
I decided to do this one single op, and as it was my wedding anniversary I
entered the 6 hour section.
Did two stints, Sat afternoon and Sun morning. Wasn't sure what time to kick
off, but when TF/DL3GCS popped up I decided to go for it, given his rare-ish
country and grid. A little worried, as I worked my best DX (UY1HY in KO60MA)
on Sat evening just as the XYL was warming the car up to go to the
restaurant, and the band was opening to the USA for some at the same
time....thought I was going to miss out. Sun morning started a little slow
but soon opened up in the same direction. Plenty of Es both sessions and I
had almost as many QSOs on CW as I did on SSB, which brought in some useful
multipliers. Didn't hear or work anything across the pond, but a modest 5
ele yagi here not up particularly high. Missed out on loads of G
multipliers, think all the beams were turned East as called quite a few in
IO9x and JO0x who couldn't hear me.
All in all, good fun, and the Es was once again good this year. 92 QSOs and
currently running 2nd in the 6S section, according to the Claimed Scores
page. And nice to see many confirmations coming in via LoTW.
Would like to do the full event sometime with a serious effort, but our
group has supported the UKSMG contest for almost 20 years, and it's hard
enough to get us all together once a year, nevermind twice in one month.
