Would it be sensible not to use /P in field day if you are operating away from the normal lisence address, but not field day style (not on self generated power, in a field etc)?

My licence says 'it is recommended that the following suffixes are 
used..'. So you can omit them if you wish, though good practice is 
still to use them.

There may be advantage in some contests in leaving them out, but in NFD 
and VHF FD you clearly should use them. They are also sensible in SOTA 
when activating and many other cases where you want to indicate you are 
not at your normal QTH. I always use them.
