Actually I don't think so. You would be pushed to find a more dyed in
the wool CW op. than YT
Since I got on six a few years ago, I have been pleasantly surprised at
the level of CW activity, e.g in Es openings the band is full of Eu
stations. Of course I would generally not hear UK stations in such
conditions, and genuine tropo seems pretty abnormal on the band. Whether
Gx (s) are QRV on CW in such cdx. therefore is an imponderable, but I
suspect probably not, if only because the operating style is quasi
contest, viz 5NN & QTH loc.
Actually I suspect the problem , on six at least is twofold. Firstly Gx
(s) use CW significantly less than many Western Eu countries, and hugely
less than Eastern Eu countries. Secondly contest operstion is, as we
surely know, anathema to the average Gx station. Everyone has an opinion
on why this is so, and I am no exception, but you will be pleased to
hear that I shall not bore you with mine!
As for 144Mhz and above, they are CW wildernesses within or without
contests, and for that reason I simply never operate there, which is sad
because I was a keen meteor scatter operator there, back in the 70s. The
iron curtain of CW operation is I believe therefore HF of 50Mhz, and I
believe the reasons for this are historical viz CW refuseniks found
their natural home above 144Mhz because of the post 1967( was it?)
licence changes. I don't think that's unhealthy just , from my own
p.o.v. rather unfortunate, but I was advised to " get used to it" which
I have done.
