[UK-CONTEST] CW in V/UHF contests & the Liner-2

Apologies for continuing an off-topic thread, but I must write in defence of
the much maligned (and oft misaligned) Liner 2.

Driven to only about 7 or 8 watts out, it was reasonably clean providing it
hadn't been realigned since new. But the poor audio response of the
microphone led people to turn up the mic gain and this caused many problems.
Mine used to drive my home-brew QQVO6-40 linear quite well.

Secondly, the move from 145.41 down to 144.3 brought the spurious output
into the top half of the two metre band, whereas prior to the change of
calling frequency, it had been above the band and largely unnoticed.

But love it, or hate it, it is undeniable that the Belcom Liner 2 brought a
great deal of activity to the 2m band during the mid 70s.

73,
Chris
