Pardon me for sending this out on these two reflectors; this is because I
cannot remember which reflector was running a thread last week concerning
the HC8 contest station.

I have just worked HC8GR on 17m, he's still there putting in a good signal
on 18,140 with a huge pile-up. After our qso I looked up his QRZ.com entry
and there is a lengthy explanation, in Spanish, about how he arrived in HC8,
how the contest station got going and what has happened to it. Basically it
is not in use because the Ecuadorian authorities cancelled the licences
because they found out that the Americans holding them were not residing in
Ecuador. He says the station is still fully equipped, I'm not sure about
rigs and amps but he does say "it is still equipped". The last time it was
used us with his callsign in 2010.

He also says that he would like to receive visits form hams who would like
to operate from his station.

In will try to contact Guido via email if possible to ask if he would like
to put a full translation on his qrz.com page as I am quite prepared to do
one.
