What a great weekend, as many others have already commented,
conditions were amazing and for once we seemed to be well positioned
to take advantage of them in the West of EU.
Due to a combination of misfortune and devastating storms at our hill
top Atlantic exposed QTH, we lost our main mast and HF antennas a
couple of years back and have been restricted to LF contests since
then. After a lot of hard work over the the last year we had our 40m
system up again and some HF aerials. Although the main HF tower is
still not up, we decided to go ahead with the contest with a small
mobile tower in it's place.
With conditions having been good over the previous week we had our
sights on the 10 year old Multi Single EI record of just over 9
million points and began to think we could beat it after a great start
on 40m with several hours of good runs into NA. From 40m we went
straight to 10m and we set a target of 2 million points by noon on
Saturday. We hit that target with a couple of minutes to spare, so we
knew we were in for a good score.
By Sunday the EI record had been overtaken and we started to dare to
think about the 20 year old M/S European record of just over 17
million points.
We all watched the score in Wintest climbing ever closer to that
target during the day and we really couldn't quite believe it when we
finally finished the contest with 19 millions points.

Lets hope HF conditions continue to be good for a year or two, it
certainly makes contesting (even greater) fun.

Pete, G4CLA.
