A fun weekend at the M5E/G0CKV super-station!.......With LP and poor
antennas the pile-ups generated by the cluster-mob are totally useless
and most pile-ups generally are non-productive except that it is useful
to remember where the DX is and check back frequently for a lull in his
pile-up. Giving the cluster-mob a wide berth also improved my mood
considerably and made me enjoy the bands rather than worry about the
future of mankind and the dumbing-down of the hobby.
It's not just 'LP & Poor antennas' that don't break the pile-ups
generated by the cluster-mob, I found the same thing running 400W to a 2
ele tribander at 30ft (how much more ERP can I legally generate without
a really big tower & a lot more space in which to put it +3dB ?). I
tried to work several stations on 10m that were being overwhelmed by the
number of stations calling them but gave it up as a total waste of time.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the wretched cluster was switched off during
major contests (or better still all together!) at least some of these so
called 'operators' might learn to give their callsigns at least
occasionally. Having made a few dozen contacts I decided that I had more
useful things to do.
