I note the amendment to the NFD rules: (c) a muting requirement applies
to receivers used -- this brings operation close to "big knob-little
knob" mode, and can be implemented with minimum external circuitry.
As they initially stood, the new rules were exciting and a catalyst for
innovation - the potential was there for the restricted section of NFD
to be a training ground in leading-edge contest operating.
I really thought that the contest committee were thinking in the future
- why the back-track?
As a team, we were gearing up to the challenge of two-transceiver
(non-muted) operation in the restricted section. We felt this was a
real opportunity to challenge the regular leading teams with new
operating techniques. The opportunity was there to expose your
once-a-year contester to world-class contesting methods - it's now just
slipped away, along with the potential training ground for top-notch
world contesters of the future.
Poor decision, contest committee, very disappointing. Stinks of
pandering to the old-guard.
John G4IRN.
