As one of the more recent additions to the Contest Committee, I can confirm 
Don's story.

Don approached me direct after I had foolishly offered some improvements 
that could be made to the Club Championships adjudication method.

At that time, I knew no-one on the CC (other than a fellow club member). I 
was not even a serious contester (and am still not!).

Certainly wasn't as a result of some fictitious "old boys network" !
