[UK-CONTEST] Contest UBN's

Chris, I have had the similar on CW. I took the trouble to log 559 but the
station I worked having sent (by hand) 559 let the default software report
be logged of 599. In your case as you say doesn't matter, but there are
occasions when stations are a few dozen points apart in thousands. It then
matters. 73 Clive GM3POI

Following a VHF contest earlier this year, I received a UBN report which
said I had been given a 5x9 report when I had logged 5x7.

I sent the adjudicator a 55 second audio clip of the exchange, which clearly
showed the report I had been given was 5x7. In my email, I was careful to
say "this is not an appeal" - since my position in the results table wasn't
changed by having the QSO disallowed.

The adjudicator sent me a very comprehensive reply, clearly believing my
recording to be authentic, but saying that the policy is that recordings
made by entrants are not admissible as evidence.

He also advised me that this is one of the issues currently under
consideration by the contest committee (CC).

The easy option for the CC will be to penalise both parties in cases like
this, but I am not convinced that is fair either.

GM4CXM's suggestion of sending out (or better still, openly publishing) UBN
reports in advance of the final results, does have some merit. It would give
a limited period of time in which appeals could be made, and the
adjudicators could form a view for themselves whether an audio recording
supporting the appeal is clear-cut enough or not.

As for people tampering with audio clips, there are already other "issues",
such as power levels, antenna restrictions, etc. where the integrity of the
entrant is assumed, and this falls into the same category.
