Depending upon how many "years ago" that was Ray, all of these ceramic 
tubes tend to go soft over time and need conditioning for a few hours to 
avoid the risk of flash-over and/or destruction on initial application 
of full HT voltage.  There are several web pages describing the procedure. 

I suggest you include a disclaimer when you dispose of them.
