I took particular pleasure in reading your report Olaf as it brought back some fond (and not so fond) memories of days gone by.
Lizard point is the most southerly point on the UK mainland and just touches upon the 50th parallel and it sure gets windy down there at times.
In days before the Poldhu club was formed we made several excursions to the site for various field day and Marconi anniversay celebrations. On one occaision our operating and sleeping tents were completely blown down and waterlogged. The buildings on the site were at that time an hotel and they allowed us to complete the weekend with use of a couple of their rooms. (No it was not a field day contest)!.
The concrete structures for the original masts which can be seen on Olaf's QSL card are still in place (or were when I was last there) and those masts were themselves blown down proving that professionals can also get it wrong although those were early days with these sort of structures.
