[UK-CONTEST] CQ160 SSB propagation question

If anyone was doing this contest both nights I would be interested in 
views of the NA propagation on Friday night/sat morn  compared to 
Saturday night/ sun morn?

However, my main problem was not being able to hear enough through 
the S9 noise.

I was doing a "trial" from my very small home back garden, which I 
have not done for over 12 years.  Unfortunately I had an antenna 
problem at 00.30 Sat morning, and despite trying for an hour in the 
dark, I missed the problem, so gave up until daylight.  I soon found 
the problem and fixed it in daylight and everything worked fine last 
night,  but my perception was that things seemed more lively around 
the early hours of saturday  than this morning.  I only managed 4 NA 
QSOs.  What did others think?

May not be of general interest, so happy to take replies off reflector.
