[UK-CONTEST] New CC Rules

There has been a lot of heated discussion over the new distance rules for Club Championships, and some people plainly feel strongly about the newly implemented changes. There has also been some unwarranted criticism of the volunteer contest committee who, in my view, are doing a grand job in trying to please everyone all the time, which is never going to happen.

The CCs have been eminently successful in generating plenty of activity with intra-club competition as well as inter-club and it would be a great pity to spoil what is a very popular series. Many have commented to me that a big attraction is the short, 90 minute duration of the contests, great for those who, like me, no longer have the stamina for 48 hour events.

As of now there is an illogical disparity in the distance rules between the CCs and AFS. Plainly I am one of those who will be directly affected by this rule change, but any such change is going to affect the whole club's score and so every competitor should have a chance to give their view.

I therefore propose that, before the start of CCs next month, the new distance rule be scrapped for the rest of this year and during the year, every entrant be e-mailed a questionnaire on how and if, they would like the rules changed. The contest committee will then have a relatively easy job of taking the majority view. I also propose that the subject under discussion be closed until the results of the ballot are known.
