In my original post I should have pointed out for the benefit of newer contesters that it is the ability to hear which is of paramount importance,
This contest is primarily an inter UK affair and not for dx. Many ops therefore will choose a low dipole antenna which will give high angle radiation and not be useful or needed for dx working. Therefore my comments on the stronger stns to be heard could be using a vertical antenna, a high dipole or the ability to have a choice of antennas to work longer distance contacts in later stages of the contest taking advantage of the hours of darkness when the rate slows down and they need to find more to work.
