Brian

I use the SPE Expert 1K-FA and have had no real problems with it in normal
operation or in a contest environment. Good value for money and the Mk3 has
extra cooling fans. There is of course the new 2KW version which I am told
has some very good refinements learned from the 1KW versions. If you want
to join my the Yahoo group so you can ask others (many have other amps too)
then go to yahoo groups and enter spe expert.

Hello Brian

I think you would be wise to steer clear of both the ALS1300 and the
Heatherlite.

poor - this is a crucial failing which also seems to plague 'Expert'
amplifiers. Any protection circuitry in a solid-state amp has to be
super-fast, or intelligent enough to back things off long before the devices
are damaged. Tokyo Hi-Power amps are very well designed in this respect.

All Heatherlite amps are/were poor - a hotch potch of R.S. Components -
badly designed and badly constructed.

In your situation I would try getting hold of a valve amplifier - something
like an Alpha 91B will last a long time. There is quite a wide choice in
this type of amp.
