You should try microwave contesting from 23cm to 47GHz where signals are
often only a couple of dB or so above noise level and where you might 
have to resort to reflections from rain clouds or aircraft (certainly up 
to 24GHz). Six metres is a doddle in comparison :-)

That said, I've often made more QSOs on 10GHz in the past than the 
measly 18 Qs I made today in the 50MHz CW Contest! Conditions up here in 
the frozen north (Sheffield) were very poor with only one Eu station 
(CT1BOH) heard and worked and, to hinder matters, my laptop (running 
Wintest) decided to play up and my yagi had an intermittent fault!
