That's right Graham, plus also alarm bells should sound when a number of
similar errors are found. So  far Five stations have e-mailed me with "found

That's not quite the case in practice in my experience. 
I can recall seeing logs (when I was adjudicating the RSGB 160m contests)
that showed an error of one out in the serial number received for single
operator entries, where the sending station was using Wintest. The sample
was too small to be sure - but the suspicion was that it was (is?) a Wintest
'feature'
What you say regarding M/M entries is true - but normally this results in
s/n being sent out of sequence rather than incorrectly.

Hi Clive.

The issue with Wintest is normally associated with IOTA style contests where
there are two stations using same pool of serial numbers. Under  certain
circumstances, one station can give out a number then have it "stolen" from
him by the other op if he doesn't log it in time. Doesn't happen with AFS as
only one station using the S/N's.
