I have always felt it unwise and unfair to promote multi-mode contests: they 
can fill the whole HF spectrum (except WARC) with contest signals, allowing 
no respite for non-participants. It thereby increases the potential for 
anti-contesters to complain.

Like yourself, I recall that IARU specifically recommends NOT promoting 
mixed-mode contests although a half-hour search of the IARU web-site reveals 
nothing to support this memory. It seems rather ludicrous that IARU should 
make this recommendation when the ONLY contest under its umbrella is 
multi-mode!

We already have major multi-mode contests: IARU HF Championship, RSGB IOTA, 
Russian DX. I think it would be a mistake to launch a new (POI/WOJ style) 
contest which is multi-mode. Better to have two separate contests, or split 
it half-way (12 hours CW and 12 SSB maybe).
