Sorry Brian, but I disagree. Committee action isn't or hasn't been outstanding, ie, not actioned. This contest has been in the calendar for many years
and has constantly been reviewed. Indeed I recall when I first joined HF Contests Committee in 1985 John G3HCT, now VK4QQ, urging us to retain the
event despite adverse comments. In recent years it has become obvious that some changes should be made but as has been very clearly demonstrated by
recent reflector discussions, the formulation of a replacement event is extremely difficult.
Having spent a fair amount of time over the last 24 hours thinking about the current proposal and observing band conditions and propagation, I have
concluded that the proposal is probably workable.
The problem is not so much the rules as the aggressive way it has been approached. Many of us involved in the GR2HQ project were appalled at the
leadership style adopted and the poor operating standards that were encouraged. We now have the same two people trying to railroad (not my wording)
their extreme ideas into this contest.
Discussions with other experienced contesters not only confirm these conclusions but also confirm that :
1 - There appears to be a deliberate attempt to confront the contest committee and bully them into submission.
2 - There is a desire to "wup the b'stards" (UK Contesters) (with apologies to Cassius Clay) into being "better" contesters.
Neither of these two options are acceptable.
I would be happy to support the current proposals on condition that :
1 - The Contest Committee are not subjected to any more undue pressure and are given adequate time, eg end of 2012, to consider the proposals.
2 - Default, ie current, rules on RST, penalties and log submission times are accepted for the draft rules.
Acceptance of these conditions would indicate that the proposers are genuine in their desire to create a viable replacement.
