Where can one buy suitable insulators? They probably need to  be rated at 
500Kg SWL on a big mast/tower, or they may become the  weak link.
 The only ones that seem to be available cheaply / free are  ex electricity 
board pole stay insulators which can sometimes be salvaged if you  are in 
the right place at the right time, but they are quite bulky / heavy  and draw 
attention to the guys in a way that  thin synthetic rope doesn't  do.
 
If anybody knows a supplier of suitable guy insulators, (the sort  where  
if the insulator breaks the guying doesn't fail), please post  !
