[UK-CONTEST] Guy insulators

500 Kg? That's going to be a very big tower with the guys being used to
lift the tower. If we are talking about the usual crank up tower the
loading is only going to be due to windage which I guess would be much
less than 500 Kg but I'm not a structural engineer.

No need for electricity supply insulators, small egg insulators would do
the job and being under compression there's no risk of breakage & if the
wire won't go through the insulator it's probably heavier than it needs
to be.

They probably need to be rated at 500Kg SWL on a big mast/tower, or they
may become the weak link. The only ones that seem to be available
cheaply / free are ex electricity board pole stay insulators which can
sometimes be salvaged if you are in the right place at the right time,
but they are quite bulky / heavy and draw attention to the guys in a way
that thin synthetic rope doesn't do. If anybody knows a supplier of
suitable guy insulators, (the sort where if the insulator breaks the
guying doesn't fail), please post ! 73 Derek G3RAU -----
