Hello all
I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong, but there seems to be a
perception amongst some of the members of the RSGB CC that the members of
this reflector are out to criticise them at every twist and turn. I do not
think that this is the case, but I do think we need much better
communication from the CC - whatever system is in place at the moment is not
working. The 460 (?) members of this reflector include most of the
active contesters in the UK and could provide a lot of support to the CC if
we knew what was needed.
The present CC have a high workload and generally most of this happens out
of the public eye. I had a chat with CC member Pete G4CLA on Skype yesterday
and he pointed out that there is an RSGB contest almost every week, with 2
contests in some weeks. All these have to be administered and adjudicated -
sometimes a lengthy process despite as much software automation as possible.
In the Litmus Test (am I the only one who thinks we don't need this Human
Resources speak - how about 'consultation process'?) I suggested that the
time has come for the CC to split back into an HF CC and a VHF CC (sharing
software expertise of course) - the current CC has 18 (?) members - too
many.
The experiences and more importantly, the mindset, of VHF contesters and HF
contesters are completely differerent (as is demonstrated regularly on this
reflector) so 2 smaller separate committees with greater focus is the way
forward, IMHO. These 2 committees could be assisted by a number of contest
organisers, freeing up the committee time for policy and planning, etc.
