I genuinely believe that the installation was otherwise well enough
designed and assembled (but then I would say that, wouldn't I!)
Sorry to hear that tale Keith, it sounds very nasty.
I would be interested in the post mortem analysis, having had a similar
incident - but not with Mastrant.
What was the exact guying radius?
Which sections of the Versatower were guyed?, and was it with 3 guys on a
tier ?
Did the ground anchor perhaps move under extreme load?
What was the length of the stub mast above the top of the head unit?
What type, and how many, beams? and how far was each up the stub mast?
When you installed it was the top guy slack enough to enable the mast to
move, or was it very tight? In other words could you set it rocking by
heaving the top guy up and down and setting up a rocking motion?
Can you find out or estimate the likely max wind gust it encountered? Say
if that is the standard reporting height of 11M or up at beam height.
I hope you manage to get it all down safely, just remember the lifting
cables may well have been stressed near to death, so be very careful and don't
put your body weight onto the upper sections by climbing. You may be the
final straw ! Likewise luffing over with the bent section as it is, the
luffing cable may become quite stressed under the excess load!
