I think what we can all learn from this discussion is that VHF (6m) has so
many different modes of  propagation that there is no single answer to
Dave's inquiry.

Being flexible, and prepared for almost anything is the key.  From this
perspective, the *ideal* installation in TX, MI or NY should probably be
similar - and quite extensive.

The apparent unpredictability of how signals propagate is what intrigues me
about all VHF/UHF operation.
