Greetings all,

Last Friday I met with Marilyn, Hans' xyl and it was 3 years ago today that Hans became a SK if I recall the date correctly. May he rest in peace as his memory is indeed revered by all who knew him.

I go waaaaaaayyyy back with Hans. We met in grade 9, same course, same class in high school and one year later we joined the Nortown ARC in Toronto, 1958. Same code class in 1958 and Hans snuck out halfway through it and wrote his ticket but it took me 44 years more to get the nerve to face an examiner. We did field day together in 1959 taking the 40CW tent as a team and I logged in the daytime and pounded brass all night while Hans slept. Did another 7 field days with him after too. I was his wheels for the June/Sept ARRL VHF contests for years (ten perhaps) and we went hilltopping north of Toronto using tube equipment, his 6 and 2 meter beams and my homebrew 220 and 432 beams. Hans started with a Hallicrafters SX99 and Globe Chief xmtr and ended with Icom gear. How I recall seeing the 832B amp socket arc over when it was left out overnight and the dew was on the bakelite socket in the 432 amp. Memories were made of this,
and so many of you have many fond memories of Hans. I am always happy to share experiences with you about him.

At his memorial service, I was the first to get up and speak from the many guests present as I was the first of those attending to know Hans, and I was honoured to have this privilege. I see Marilyn on occasions and have all of Hans' qsl cards in my hamshack along with his original ham licenses and car license plates along with much more including his 1296 amp and 2.3 gig amp which I will put to use in his memory too. The "old days" were indeed fun with Hans and his passing was much too soon. May you take a moment to reflect.

I will bring Marilyn to functions in the future if you wish too.

Respectfully and sincerely,

Bill
