First it is most reasonable to think it is the first time on a vhf band
since the last contest when they were a 

"want to be vhf contest-er"

 OR

as a qualified

"HAM RADIO AMATEUR in the pocket HAM shack"

 have the tried the first VHF operating since they got off the local
repeater....

If such park 5 Kc away and call "CQ" with your grid will bring
results...

 Here is why I feel I have a legit complaint:
> VHF and above contesting is weak signal by nature.

It is called the DUMB & DUMBER contest crew,
 will find them in the bottom 10% of the scores..........

just go to those that are quick to work

 and call "CQ" yourself 5 kc away from the DUMB & DUMBER contest guys,
you will work many that are same as you feel...
