      Never have I ever made the statement that Tim and Pat (who I have
never heard of before a day ago) cheat. It was simply their statement that
it was legal to work both of them in the same rover unit that prompted me to
ask the question.

      If you notice, I changed to Subject of the email so that they were not
associated with the query. I also have not sent personal email back to any
of those who sent me private messages. I am simply looking to see how the
rules for these contests are interpreted.

      You are free to think this, however there is a special category set
out in the rules for Rovers. It specifically lays out the ground rules about
how many people (maximum 2), what equipment can be used (can't drive up to
your buddies house and hook into his 200 foot tower and multi-stack), etc.
Since the category has been defined, it becomes a valid entry.

      Tim and Pat, and if anyone else took personal offense, I sincerely
apologize to each and every one of you. Amateur radio is a hobby, and should
always be fun. Roving is a great way to have fun. Probably most rovers do so
for the fun of it. I don't think anyone has figured out how to make money
driving 600 miles to talk on a radio. I activated 8 grids in the 2002 June
VHF contest, and still tell people about it today. I am planning on setting
up a portable mountain top operation this year. Why? I guess because I'm as
crazy as the rest of you on this reflector.

      I would guess that if the bus load of people were all family members
living in the same house, then they could indeed all operate. Since the
general consensus is that the 2 operator maximum rule for rovers is trumped
by the family member rule, and by association it also trumps the rule that
states a rover station may only transport one station using one callsign.

      was put in place to make sure that a bus load of 30 people can't drive
around contacting everyone manufacturing contacts.

      That would require a new category... Multiop rover.

      I would guess that the provision for a maximum of two people is so
that one person isn't trying to drive and also make and log contacts all at
the same time.

      I have to agree that my previous statement about 2 people roving
making 16 contacts would be incorrect. Since general rule 3.5 intends for
the family members to share the same equipment. It's tough to split that
radio apart and use it in two grids at the same time.

      Again, there's no big prize money at stake here, very little fame and
glory, driving me on... but simply my over inquisitive nature about
interpretations of rules.

      By all means, go out have fun, and burn up the airwaves. I'm not
worried about winning... I live in Alberta... there are 6 people total to
play VHF contest with around here!

      Again, my apologies to anyone who would take personal offense to my
rule inquiries.
