Our appreciation also for those who supported our rover with so many QSOs,
despite little propagation. Leon and I managed to stay safe and warm, and we
went thru a similar experience of roof dancing in dissembling the antenna
stack from the van upon arrival home at 11:30PM Sun nite--a good snow brush
and rags helped--and luckily it's a 2 bolt operation after all the coax
cables, waterproofing and cable ties are removed.
Much appreciation to those who moved across the bands in bunches, and those
who kept checking for us everywhere--our calling freq of 160 seemed to get
busy with others after the first few hrs! Yes, we also began to hear the
ring of the snow on 10G as we made final QSOs on that band toward 10PM. Our
only police visit was equally professional--we are known to the New Britain
Township Police, and I now have a license plate frame that says "Amateur
Radio" and a front call sign plate, but despite that, he told us someone
called and wanted to have us checked out to see if we were getting messages
from the Mars Rover! We did give him our informational trifold brochure, one
of many we handed out over the weekend. We did 4 of the 7 planned grids, as
the weather and temps were foreboding. The van rocked like a boat in FM28 at
Cape May from the winds. It was difficult managing the dishes there. We did
however make QSOs with N2MH/R and NE3I/R. TNX Bill and Christophe for being
such great leaders and cheerleaders in VHF-micro ops and roving. 73, Rick,
K1DS and Leon N1XKT/R
