Ah, I finally find a URL I was looking for.

I think that GM has a pretty commonly available ~ 110 amp alternator
that has been in their bigger cars trucks and SUV's for about 10 years
or better.  I have also heard that you need ~ about 1 hp for every 40
amps you would need about a 3-4 HP driver for this alternator.

I'm seriously looking at doing some additional research on this and
building something for myself.  Also if you have any info that may be
of benefit let me know.
