[VHFcontesting] The Right Tool for the Right Job [was: The Rover Flaw]

There are two issues at play: use of APRS to assist in making valid QSO's (where such assistance is allowed) vs. using APRS QSO's as valid contest QSO's.

HamIM (APRS on simplex w/o Internet links) contacts MAY be directly logged as contest QSO's (The ARRL said so, for their events while other sponsors would need to chime in for theirs, of course).

I view APRS and HamIM as complimentary activities, not in competition. Just use the right tool for the right job! :)

But if they should allow retransmission of signals
thru the APRS network, shouldn't they also allow
repeater and satellite QSOs to count for the contest?
And maybe even Echolink. Heck, CQ counts Echolink
QSOs towards DX awards.
