[VHFcontesting] Grid Circling Group & VUAC

What I find bothersome about a comment like "As far as the VUAC goes, I
see that group as being rather worthless" on a reflector frequented by
serious and professional VHF-UHF contesters is that it indicates some
people have not done the research and STILL do not understand what the
purpose (and limits) of the VUAC is.

Let's be clear with the facts, boys and girls.

The fact remains that the VUAC only makes recommendations about rules
changes and they ARE NOT the group chartered with actually changing or
re-writing the rules. That function and power resides in a different
(and salaried) branch of the ARRL.

I know first hand that a variety of recommendations made by the VUAC
last year were taken under advisement by the other branch, implemented,
not implemented, and in one case, implemented, but "word smithed" after
their own interpretation of the rule intent so as to completely alter
the original intent of the recommended rule.

You need to find your ARRL officials drawing salary (from your dues) and
pound on them about this stuff. NOT the people that are giving up time
and energy as volunteers trying to help you people !

Thanks Dave. I appreciate that comment after the literally hundreds of
hours and thousands of emails that the VUAC went through in an attempt
to improve the rover rules. It is good to know that all of the personal
time I put into the effort with no compensation other than feeling that
I am making a contribution to the VHF contesting community is
appreciated. Tell you what, when your division's representative time is
up I will make sure that your name is on the top of the list of folks
who would like to serve on the VUAC.

Why don't you guys just stop bashing rovers? They don't compete with
fixed stations. The so called "Grid Circling Group" is out there having
fun. They have a considerable investment in their gear just like a lot
of fixed stations do. However, many folks don't have the location, money
or time to set up a competitive fixed station. Roving is an option. But,
everytime a rover suggests something on here, it gets bashed. It gets
old fast and probably discourages many from even bothering with VHF+
contesting.

As far as the VUAC goes, I seem that group as being rather worthless.
