Hi Steve.   My experiences with using a "home" freq for roving has been
VERY favorable.   One key is that when you QSY up the bands that you use
YOUR home freq's, NOT the other stations (so that you are not jumping all
over the place).   For example, when I rove, I let it be known that I am
using 144.240 (for example), and will QSY to 222.140, 432.140, 902.140,
1296.140, etc.   That way when a fixed station is looking for a rover, like
K4GUN/R, they can listen on these other freq's if I don't hear them on 2m.
This strategy works well, at least here in the Upper Midwest.   Since you
are the rover, YOU tell the fixed station the QSY freq unless they have a
problem with that (ex: a birdie, etc).   Be aggressive, your the rover.

Having a "home" freq really helps the fixed stations find you.  Use the
same "offset" as you QSY up the bands - this helps other fixed stations
find you on other bands besides 2m.  You are the rover, you tell the fixed
station what the QSY freq is.  I seldom use schedules.
