Yep. That's a common problem, and reflects the state of the electronic component industry today. As the late, great Don LaFontaine would intone, "In a world..." of throwaway consumer electronics, quality, long-life switches just aren't made anymore.
I replaced mine with one out of an old mouse. I had to dig through a box of old computer stuff I kept, but found a switch that was close enough on the third mouse I tried.
I also fixed the encoder of an old HW-5400 that way once, but that's another story...
I'm sure Icom is aware of the problem -- mine was out of warranty, but maybe yours is less than a year old???
One final note... I connected a 220 ohm resistor from +13.8 to the positive fan lead (which is still connected as usual). Now it runs at a continuous low speed that is barely audible, and only kicks up to high speed during long-winded FM transmissions. Temperature meter never gets out of the blue, and the case is nice and cool to the touch at all times.

I'm pretty happy with my IC7000 for roving.

My only complaint is the factory mic. The PTT switch failed and I haven't been able to fix it.
