I liked my ft 897 I bought it last spring. I am selling it soon. It was a good rover radio on the one rove I tok it on. However its a bit big and apt to damage as compared to other radios. IE radios with big knobs as compared to buttons are less likely to get the jnob knocked off them.

the 897 shined in the fact that you could set the output power seperately for amps per band or use it as a beacon.

mine ended up in the trailer as I don't rove much anymore, nor turn in logs if I am portable someplace.

If you have a large vehicle with room to keep the radio out of the way, its great, hears better than the 706. But if you are compacted in your vehicle a remore mounted radio is the way to go.

I never had rf feedback issues or lost menu settings.

> Have the current crop of Yaesu FT897D and FT857D (within the last 2 years or so) had all of the problems worked out of them? I know some of the early models had problems with RF feedback changing the hidden menus, and an incorrect bias affecting 6m audio, things like that. Have these been fixed? Are there any other recurring problems showing up in these radios-or other things that affect the reliability of them?
