I am thinking about doing a little rover action for this contest. Only having to deal with two bands should make this a good event to get my feet wet in roving, I think?
Some thing like starting in EM74wv at the cabin near Blairsville , then move up a few miles to EM75 in Tenn, over to EM85 in NC near Murphy, down129 to EM84, with a stop at Brasstown Bald or other high point along HWY 60/129, and then catch EM83 on the way home at the bottom of EM74, all Saturday if I have time. In the morning work EM74 from a high spot near the house and EM73 on Sunday from Noon on at the top of Pine Mt to finish up. Mel, K4JFF a has invited me over to work from his high spot deck.. Should have really good coverage from there. .
I have a small yagis for 6 and 2 that will store easy in(or on?) the Astro to set up at stops and 2m loop for talking in transit. I have been planning to build a 6M copper squalo, so now may become the time, unless someone has a spare 6M loop they want to get rid of.. Or I may use the Hamstick for transit stages.
I picked up an FT-857D used, and have a 2 meter 170 watt amp with preamp..
Any tips on roving in this area? Good high spots near the bottom of EM75/85 line?
73 de Bob,
