[VHFcontesting] 10ghz and Laser VUCC Attempt (SE US)

Appealing again to the considerable expertise of the members of these groups. I've been pouring over tropo maps, and looking at web sites for several weeks now, searching for the best site to attempt 10ghz and Laser VUCC over a weekend.

My criteria for the attempt are that drive time from Birmingham must be within about six hours. Obviously the visual horizon to five grid squares is also a must. 10ghz should be considerably easier than the laser attempts, so visual paths should take precedence. Lack of haze and smog on a consistent basis are also key.

So far, I've looked at sites on Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, TN, and a couple of others in Alabama.

I'd welcome the advice of rovers and/or microwave buffs who may have personally operated from such a site in the Southeastern US. In a perfect world, we'd be able to pull of the feat and repeat it for my partner over a single long weekend. But by keeping the driving distance manageable, we could do numerous attempts if necessary.

Grateful for any advice. Please reply off list to reduce bandwidth on the group.

73,
