I'm making some assumptions here: If this is a pickup or 4x4 with a receiver type trailer hitch, why not just build a small platform for a regular 110/220v gen set to sit outside the vehicle using hitch mount and charge batteries with your regular 48v home supply? Done this way, you probably won't even need the huge batteries.
