[VHFcontesting] Self-spotting

I tried the cell SMS tweet-to-spot function a few times, but I don't think self-spotting makes much difference for a qrp/portable in a low VHF activity region (EM53). I also tried to find someone on a local 2m repeater who could go to simplex, but no one responded. I missed my own grid on all bands :(

I had almost zero cell data coverage at my location so I couldn't do anything else. Are portable stations supposed to build cell phone yagis now? I've thought about doing a higher power operation portable, but don't want to compete against those doing coordinated digital modes.

heh...  I believe I may have a chance to score a wee bit higher up the
Big Operator chain this time, because I did not burn operating time by
fiddling with a cellphone, futzing with APRS, tweetling or updating
pages on the interweb.

If/when it finally turns into naught but a Spotting Contest,
I'll be finished with it.
