On deeper digging... I think google is trying to keep people from overuse of their map site.  They are charging for maps now... but give a $200 credit per month... it seems unlikely that you would use all $200 in one month.  But you have to sign up.

Looking around a bit there are more alternatives out there than when I started 5 years ago. Does anyone have recommendations for an interactive grid-aware map web site that's especially useful for rovers to pick out good operating locations?
