No problems with frequency/ mode type exchanges for SSB on 50.125+ to 50.200 In the mid Hudson valley of NY.
Ops should not park on 50.125 when the band is open, check to see if the band is open. The contest was just like the good old days of SSB /CW
contesting. I even managed to work two new grids.

Alex,

My experience was similar to yours. I tried to stick to CM but had to switch frequently. CQ WW was no help. I ended up doing what ever it took to make the QSO.

Perhaps there are too many conflicting interests on a single frequency. I respectfully avoided anyone calling with a special purpose (CQ DX, CQ EU, CQ EC, CQ state, etc) and tried calling with "CQ WW" myself, but to no avail. For many people the "WW" is not a prompt to change modes.

At times I would change from CM to non-CM and then the other station switched to CM. Some folks abandoned the QSO. It was tiring at times, and I don't fault anyone for this.
