Hi VHFers

Activity level on 222  was quite good with some slightly depressed
conditions here in the NE this evening.  I figured it was going to be a
good night, weatherwise, but when I came out of the shack to head home,
it was snowing with a bit of determination.  My tracks up the snow
covered road were frozen and quite slippery, so the ride down was rather
exciting as I slid sideways a few times.  30 minutes later the snow
stopped and the stars were out again!

There was quite a bit of activity spread all over the place. N1GC was
on, along with K8TQK, AA9MY, N4PZ, K9MRI WA4GGC AJ6T and a whole slew of
others and all were having fun making contacts.  The increase in
activity on Tuesday nights is very noticeable.  I was on shortly before
00:00 UT. The shack was quite cold, so the first order of business was
to hit the start switch on the diesel. It started up and the baseboard
electric heat started warming things up. I also have a small electric
space heater down at my feet and by 00:30 or so, it was comfortable.  My
222 MHz amp has an HV transformer from a T-368 transmitter (GRC-26D) I
was running things at full power and at the end of the evening at 02:40
UT for me, that transformer was still cold! It was not warm at
all!         Stations I worked include:

The K9MRI attempt was not quite complete. We exchanged reports but Joe
never got my final rogers, so it was a near miss.  We used MSK144. I
copied several bursts that did not decode. One of them was very loud.
Maybe too short lived? not sure. I copied many RR sequences from Joe.

I did work VA3ELE in Toronto, who was running 30 watts or so. That is a
440 mile contact.  I see that K1PXE was not logged above, but we had a
great CW and then SSB QSO with good signals this evening. That makes 18
QSOs. K9MRI would have been #19. WA3EOQ (502 mi) was weak but very
steady on each transmission. Then there was KO4YC who was a very good
5X4 on SSB no less at well over 500 miles.   You have to admit that 222
is a great band!!   I got home at almost 10 PM, and spent a few minutes
on a 40 Meter Fox Hunt to end the evening. There is more snow predicted
for late in the week. I am hoping to get another one or two Tuesday
nights in before I have to quit.  It depends on snow depth! The ride
gets awful scary in deep snow.
