Hi VHF folks

The 222 Activity Night is coming up this evening. This is a gentle
reminder to alert you if you somehow managed to forget about it.  The
action is really spreading out across the country with considerable
action in the midwest extending down to mid south.  Northeast activity
is also up and if you have 222 MHz gear, tonight is the night to use it
and have a good chance of making contacts.  CW, SSB. FT8 MSK144, FM,
Q65, AM and  JT65 are all encouraged. No one has yet reported a slow
scan QSO yet.

Action starts at about 2300 UT on the East Coast and somewhat later in
the midwest. I will try to active a bit before 2300 UT and will be
making noise on 222.100 MHz.  It has been non stop rain here. Many
driveways have been washed out and my woods road up to the shack is
washed out from all the rain. It needs repairs before I can drive up
again.  It never ends!! While the rain was keeping me indoors, I have
been working on restoring a very dilapidated Collins R-388 receiver. It
was covered in dirt and grease with a thick layer of nicotine on top of
it all. I should have been working on the 222  1500 watt amps, but I
could not resist the R-388. It is a military version of the Collins
51J-3 but my receiver was made for the Coast Guard in a very small
contract with under 50 receivers involved. It is a rather rare bird,
plus it also has the mechanical filter add on kit from Collins, so it is
akin to the 51J-4 with a 1.4, 3.1, and 6 kHz mechanical filter.

I guess I am walking up the hill this evening for 222 action, but it is
raining quite hard at the moment. Good buddy Al, WA1T is planning to
come with me so he can get some 222 action while his tower is being re
worked. Don't forget to turn on the 222 gear this evening.

CU then
