My garbage cans are made of plastic.

Didn't hear about that, but my longest 2 meter contact was with a mag
mount stuck to the side of my car.  Just a bit over 2300 miles.  SSB,
running about 20 - 25 watts from an IC-271A.  We chatted for a few
minutes before others showed up on the frequency.

I do have a 220 mag mount, but the rig is a Yaesu FT-127, without
CTCSS I can't even bring up repeaters.  It does pick up a few FM Q's
on contest weekends on 223.5.  I got it many years ago because a
friend was into 220 FM, then he moved away a year or two later.
