The past few days were often hot, humid, and grey. The necessary yard work was sweaty and quickly tiring. Unchecked, some weeds are now getting 2-3 feet tall. But the weekend calendar was clear, and a day in the cool radio cave seemed in order.
Comments:
The changes to the CQWWVHF event were intriguing: 24 hours, starting 8 am local Saturday to 8 am Sunday, and a low power category this year.
Just before the start of the contest, I noticed others trying to contact Europe on 6M. That path seemed to fade out soon after the start. Throughout the day, many around me in the northeast were calling Eu but not sure how many were worked. Even though I often had one antenna on Eu, I rarely decoded any Eu callsigns. My apologies to not noticing and rudely calling some who were calling “CQ DX”. Oops.
I thought everything was working in the shack but discovered that the color coding of dupes/mults/etc was working fine on 6M but not on 2M. It took about 20 minutes at the start to get it going.
E’s here were very spotty, only 12 of my 6M mults were via them.
This was a fun, no pressure. event for me. It will be interesting to see the post analysis. Thank you sponsor, contestants, and software tool makers.
73,
Chet, N8RA
