[WriteLog] sound card crosstalk

Hi all,

I am still having troubles with my sound cards.

I am back to the SoundBoard PCI128 card that was giving me fits last year
in the old computer. It does not cause any interference on the monitor in
this new computer. Hurray. I did this to get a stronger audio signal from
the Mic In for recording WriteLog wave files for SSB - the Turtle Beach
signal was tooooo weak to record new sound files.

But

In tracking down where I was getting what sounded like audio feedback
during the Roundup, here is what I discovered.

I can turn the AF Gain fully off on both the main and sub-band receivers in
my FT1000MP, turn the Monitor off and the Monitor Gain off and I can STILL
hear strong signals and can hear my audio when transmitting!

The signal path is from the MP audio output, thru the sound card to the
Patch In.

When I look at the PCI128 Mixer panel, I see that although the Mic In is
muted as it should be, the Aux In is not muted (even under transmit). When
I mute the Aux In (Aux In is the Line In on this card) manually the cross
talk goes away. Ahaw.

But the decode signal also goes away. Ugh. Implying I guess that the Mute
is on the Input side of the card not the Output side? So both the Select
for Record and the Mute operate on inputs. That is not what I would expect.

When I turn the Master Volume down slightly from full, trying to adjust the
ALC level for transmit (using AFSK) I get this audio feed back condition
where I guess the wave file and the signal from the Aux In are beating. So
I have left the Master Volume at full and turned down the Mic Gain on the
MP. I can't turn the Aux In volume down because that is on the input side also.

I am ready to throw this card away again. But I need a sanity check. Am I
expecting too much of my sound card? I can see that WriteLog can not mute
the Aux In because then there is no decode signal.

But I would expect to be able to "record" on the input side and mute
signals on the "playback" output side.

Does anyone have a card that behaves that way? or am I expecting too much?
What else is working for you?
