[WriteLog] AFC on and off?

This AFC thing is a little out of control.  I don't think
anyone really knows what's going on with it.  We have to look
at what we know for fact:

The only thing we know for fact, that I can confirm, is that
if you uncheck AFC in both the AFC and BPF sections of the
MMTTY Setup screen, the AFC never comes on.  That's what I did
in CQWW and it never came on.  I kept checking it and AFC
stayed off.  I did not use any profile buttons.

Everything else we don't know.  I suspect that the root of
the problem is the BPF AFC Connection.  The easiest way to
turn AFC on and off is by way of the Profile panel at the
bottom of the RTTY Control panel, if you have it active.  I
tested only one profile before the contest and that was
the Standard profile P1.  I set the Profile P1 for AFC off
on both AFC and BPF sections, then saved it.  I then went
into the MMTTY Rttyrite setup and checked AFC on for
CQ and AFC off for S&P.

I then pressed the P1-CQ profile and saw that AFC indeed
became active as shown by the check mark in the AFC box on
the AFC tab of the MMTTY Setup screen.  The mark frequency
changed.  I then pressed P1-S&P profile button and rechecked
MMTTY Setup and it showed AFC off on the AFC tab with a
mark frequency of 2125 hz - PERFECT or not?

However, I did not check to see if when I hit P1-CQ if the
AFC Connection on the BPF became checked on again and I did
not check it again when I hit P1-S&P.  So my test is not
complete.

Some of you need to experiment with it on your own.  I'm
convinced that AFC is a nice feature but not absolutely
needed.  I didn't use it all.  Most of us are pretty used
to using the RIT on our radios.  I don't think it's that
much of an inconvenience.  And besides, did you notice that
MMTTY copied fine in most cases where the signal was off
frequency and AFC was off?  Then again, if AFC is available,
I suppose it needs to be used since it is an advantage.

We need some detailed testing before JARTS.  I will try
to do some testing.  I will add it to the other 10,000 things
I have to do this month. hi  Don't rely on me to figure
this thing out.  I'm resigned to keeping AFC OFF period for
now.

The reports are that AFC somehow turns itself on and off
when it's not supposed to.  We need to determine why it 
does this.  I believe the first thing we need to look at
is what the BPF AFC Connection's function is and how it
acts when AFC is turned on and off in the Profile panel.
Once this is determined, maybe we can get Jorgen to make
it so that this BPF AFC Connections is turned off when AFC
is turned off.  I don't know if this is solution or not,
but it needs to be confirmed.

I had similar AFC problems... is this a MMTTY problem or a writelog thing?

When CQing, I need the AFC on, and it kept turning itself off.

When S&Ping, I need it off and it kept turning itself on.

any ideas?  I ended up using the RIT on the rig when it turned itself
off... what a pain...
