While we're going down a rathole here....

There are many places you can buy an OEM copy of Windows XP with a "qualifying
hardware purchase", which can be a one-dollar cable or mouse.

Check http://www.pricewatch.com and look for Operating Systems.

I have two copies of WinXP Pro that I have purchased this way, and they were
less than $150 each.  These are full-install disks (meant to be installed on a
new computer only), they can NOT be used to upgrade an existing system. 
Upgrading is often problematic anyway, a clean start is the best way to go,
IMO.
