Here we go again. XP DOES support dual monitors and it is all but automatic.
The graphics card needs to support two monitors. I use the Radeon 7500, it
has two ports and ships with the plug adapter to convert the video out to
accept the monitor connection.
I run the packet cluster on one monitor while I use my primary high
resolution monitor to do my digital photography work.

Plugged the second monitor and on startup XP found it and allowed me to
confugure it regarding position, resoultion, refresh rate etc.
